Travel Open Evaluations
Open Evaluations for Fall 2011/Spring 2012!
Frequently Asked Questions(FAQ)
What I MUST know about Travel Open Evaluations?
As a competitve travel program we hold open evaluations for our Travel Teams during the Spring season @ Canale Park.
ALL player/participants must fill out a Club Registration Form before trying out.
Players trying out for Travel teams are committing to a competitive travel soccer team from 8/1 of that Fall Season through 7/31 of the next year.
Team roster selection covers both the Fall and Spring Soccer seasons for that team.
When I arrive, what happens?
Please arrive at the registration tent 20 minutes before the open evaluation session. All players must check-in and fill out or turn in their EHT Club Registration Form.
Once the registration form is received the player will be assigned a # to be pinned to the back of the players shirt. The # will also
have the written appropriate age bracket based on the childs birthdate to let coaches, trainers, and parents know the appropriate age
bracket for the players. (See below for policies on playing up an age bracket) This Number will be kept by the player and used for ALL Travel Evaluation Sessions.
What Age bracket is my Child?
Age brackets are based on how old a child is ON 7/31 of that Fall Season.
Two examples that may be helpful -
Example 1 if a child is 8 years old on 7/31 of that Fall season, the child is U9(which means UNDER 9 by 8/1).
Example 2 if a child is 7 years old on 7/31 & turns 8 on 8/1 or later of that Fall season, the child is U8(which means UNDER 8 by 8/1 since the child was actually 7 on 7/31).
A very handy chart for identifying age brackets for players can be found HERE.
(See below for more information on playing outside of your age bracket)
What do we do for inclement weather(Field Closures)?
In the event of inclement weather, any changes to schedule will be posted on our website. If there are no updates on the Open Evaluations web page page, open evaluations are ON as reflected on
this schedule. Decisions to hold open evaluations are made approx. 3:30pm each day.
How much is Travel Soccer Registration?
IMPORTANT: NO PAYMENT IS DUE AT EVALUATIONS Travel Soccer Registration is $130 split into two payments. The first payment is $50 to be paid within 2 weeks
of team selection, the remaining $80 balance is to be paid by August 1st. Players can opt to pay the complete amount
up front if interested. Uniforms are purchased by the players from an authorized retailer outside of registration costs.
(See below for more information)
Are there additional costs outside of Registration and Uniforms?
Costs depend on team interests. Most travel teams do atleast 2 tournaments throughout the year and usually 3 or 4 for
more active teams. Tournament costs outside of what is subsidized by the club from Registration costs are up to the team to
cover payment.
How long is the season?
Fall is 10 weeks beginning the week after Labor Day, have off Columbus Day Weekend. Spring is 10 weeks beginning in March, have off Easter Weekend.
Many travel teams play limited throughout the winter months.
Can a player play multiple sports and travel Soccer?
Yes, many players play multiple sports. Travel coaches look for players that Soccer is their primary sport.
Playing multiple sports can be fun and rewarding, due to the competitive nature of travel sports, one travel sport per season is optimal.
Many players play multiple Rec sports such as Rec Baseball, Rec Hockey, and Rec Basketball.
What is included with Registration costs?
Travel Registration costs two largest fees are referees and professional trainers. Registration covers the following -
Fall Travel League Fees
Fall Referee Fees
Fall 8 x 1.5 hour Professional training sessions tailored specifially to that Travel Team.
Soccer Ball
Spring Travel League Fees
Spring Referee Fees
Half of two travel tournaments(essential part of the travel experience)
Club costs for equipment and field maintenance
Are uniforms included in registration costs?
Based on the clubs experience and different rates of kids growth, kids leaving and entering the program,
and some teams interests in names on Jersey the club has the uniforms seperate from registration costs.
This important change allows parents to work directly with an authorized retailer to purchase their soccer uniforms.
The player will use the uniform kit for 2 years maximum, but parents can purchase new sizes as needed for their children. Some
parents also like to have additional shorts or socks, these can now be purchased at club pricing through the authorized
uniform vendor. If a player leaves, uniforms will no longer be collected. The uniforms are owned by the players from the start,
however players cannot modify their uniforms, the only exception is last names printed the same color as their numbers on their Jerseys.
Last names on Jerseys is a TEAM decision and must be done by the entire team at the teams expense for names to be printed and applied
to the approved Jerseys.
Can a player play up an age bracket(play outside of the NJYS mandated age bracket up with older players)?
At the small sided developmental ages of U8, U9, and U10 playing up must have club approval on a player by player basis. Reasoning
for this level is players develop at many different rates and as a club we want kids to have opportunities appropriate for their
capabilities assist in their development. For ages U11 and higher, playing up will be based on the USYS, NJYS, and local travel
restrictions. Just ask at Open Evaluations for any questions or email ourclub@ehtsoccerclub.org
What should my child wear to Travel Open Evaluations?
Players should wear shin guard, spikes, and appropriate clothing to play soccer.
Please bring water as the kids may be very active during the sessions. Players should NOT wear travel team practice shirts or travel team Jerseys.
There will be brief intermissions when the players can come over to the parents for a drink break.
Should I attend both Sessions for a team?
Yes, unless directed otherwise by the coach for that team. Numbers should be worn for both sessions, the number a player receives is
assigned to him until the final roster is selected.
What size ball is appropriate?
U8-U12 use a size 4 ball, U13 and higher use a full size 5 ball. You can bring your own ball to open evaluations.
When are the final rosters determined?
We suggest to coaches they have their final roster selected within 2 weeks of completing their final open evaluation session. Coaches contact
players selected. Player #'s and NOT NAMES may be listed on the club website under the team name identifying the selections. This way players
that did not make the team are also aware the team selection is complete. Any player not selected is strongly encouraged to join our
Intramural program and continue attempting the following year.
Please see club policies on playing up, no player is allowed to play down an age bracket.
What happens if a player leaves the team, will the registration be refunded?
Once a team is selected funding is allocated to pay the costs attributed to a travel team. Therefore there are NO REFUNDS. Due to
the nature of travel costs a player leaving the team can affect more then roster, the financial impacts to the team could be even more
prominent. It is imperative once a team roster is selected and the finances are committed that those finances stay with the team for
the operating year without refund.
Can a player just play Spring season Travel Soccer?
This is at the coaches descretion, registration costs will be at approx. 60% registration costs plus Uniform costs.
